A sexually explicit scene from the Teletubbies children’s show has gone viral on Tik Tok.
Anyone who grew up in the 90s knows that Teletubbies was a very strange show. Even though the show was only on the air for three years before it was canceled, the weird series featuring creatures with televisions in their tummies and antennas on their heads has never quite left the public’s eye. The series was even rebooted in 2015 and has appeared on Netflix and other streaming platforms, which is how parents were able to watch a scene from the show that has currently gone viral on Tik Tok for being extremely sexual in nature (watch below).
In the video, the Teletubbies are getting ready for a party. The narrator on the show instructs the Teletubbies to blow “very, very, VERY hard” into a party pipe, which the purple Teletubby, Tinky Winky, does. The party pipe grows very long—so long, in fact, that it reaches the other side of the hill where the yellow Telletubby, Dipsy, is bending over and looking at what appears to be a cow print top hat (?).
Since the party pipe has grown so long, it’s able to reach Dipsy’s bum and tickles the Teletubby there—something that Dipsy seems to very much enjoy, much to the horror of adult viewers. The Teletubbies video was posted by Tik Tok user @his_beautiful_surrender, who captioned the video, “What did I just watch?” something that other Tik Tok users also wanted to know.
Many parents were outraged, believing that the x-rated Teletubbies content was subliminal messaging for the toddlers who watch the show. Many parents said that they banned their children from watching the program, while others believed that there was no way the show would be able to get away with such horrors if made in the modern day.
Others, on the other hand, didn’t think the sexually explicit content was such a big deal, with some saying that that’s just the way that Teletubbies was and that people should expect such weirdness from the show. Others thought that adult viewers were reading too much into it, believing that it was just innocent content that grown-ups were making dirty with their guttered minds, arguing that children thought the moment was funny and would never know that it could be taken in another, much dirtier, way.
For better or for worse, Teletubbies is a popular British children’s series that follows four different colored creatures that resemble some sort of alien toddlers and who have screens on their stomachs, antennas on their heads, and who communicate with each other via gibberish. The show was one of the most popular children’s programs around the same time as the height of Barney & Friends, which also featured a giant anthropomorphic colorful creature, but was way less weird and much more charming.
